What are some of the key issues that we need to look at when thinking about Latin America? Democracy, economic growth, education, drug problems, and biodiversity are a few broad issues. Join us for food, drinks, and a discussion about these important topics, and explore the work being done by local and national organizations on various global issues in Latin America for the final event of the World Affairs Council’s 60th Anniversary celebration. Through the generous 60th Anniversary support of Microsoft and the Seattle International Foundation, there is no charge to attend this event.
The evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a reception in which you will have to opportunity to meet participants of the Seattle International Foundation’s Central America Donors Conference, which will include representatives from Central American Governments, U.S. Foundations working and funding in Central America, and Central American civil society leaders. You will also have the opportunity to meet and talk with representatives from a variety of local organizations focusing their work on Latin America. Organizations represented include Global Visionaries, Water 1st International, Agros International, Global Partnerships, Mona Foundation, Amigos de Santa Cruz Foundation, Etta Projects, and Guatemala Village Health.
At 7:00 p.m., the World Affairs Council, in collaboration with the Seattle International Foundation, will present a conversation with Mark Feierstein, USAID Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean, who will discuss the U.S. development strategy in Latin America. There will be a short presentation, with ample opportunity for a moderated Q&A. You may submit your questions in advance in the comment section below.
