The world’s need for energy and the need to preserve the planet have come crashing together in recent times. Countries around the world are being forced to look at the environmental impacts of their energy production. At the same time, they are seeking innovative solutions which protect the environment, while still providing reliable, cost-effective energy supplies.

The World Affairs Council presents a three-part series on energy. This series will outline the influence of the Triple Bottom Line (Environmental, Human, & Economic) on global energy policies, including the role of energy on American foreign policy choices. As energy policy is directly linked to economic, environmental, and now social policies, its impact on American foreign policy is greater than ever before.

Part one of the series will feature a panel discussion that will outline the impacts of past fossil-fuel based policies (both American and international), the role of traditional (petroleum based) and new (cleantech) energy sources, as well as the realities of moving from innovation to implementation of clean technologies.

•L. John Iani- Former Regional Administrator for Region 10 of the Environmental Protection Agency; Current member, Van Ness Feldman
