Iran: The Grand Bargain and 2007 World Citizen Essay Contest Recognition Night

Christopher Preble, Director of Foreign Policy Studies at the Cato Institute

How can the U.S. secure Iran’s nuclear arms threat?

One of the gravest security threats the world faces is the possibility of a nuclear-armed Iran. However, rather than moving in the direction of resolution, the United States and Iran are painting themselves into dangerous corners. Christopher Preble, Director of Foreign Policy Studies at the Cato Institute, will discuss how we can get out of this increasingly dangerous impasse by offering Iran what it claims to want in exchange for abandoning efforts to build nuclear weapons.

Christopher Preble has a wealth of foreign policy experience and security expertise. Prior to joining the Cato Institute he taught history at St. Cloud State University and Temple University. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy and is a veteran of the Gulf War. He is the author of "John F. Kennedy and the Missile Gap", a book discussing the political and economic roots of national security strategy in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Preceding Christopher Preble's lecture, Megan Bowman, Board Chair of the World Affairs Council, will present and honor the 2007 World Citizen Essay Contest winners.
