Lesson Plans & Resources: Causes of Conflict

Lesson Plan 1: Journey to Topaz: A Literature-Based Approach
(Elementary Level)

From the National Japanese American Historical Society
http://bss.sfsu.edu/internment/njahs1.html

This lesson plan calls for using a video in addition to the book Journey to Topaz by Yoshiko Uchida. However, the lesson can also be successful without the video.

Lesson Plan 2: American Justice on Trial
(High School Level)

From the Schools of California Online Resources for Education
http://score.rims.k12.ca.us/activity/internment/index.html

This high school level lesson challenges students to decide if the U.S. government violated the human rights of Japanese Americans. Although the lesson as it is presented here is quite challenging, it could be adapted for junior high-level students.
