Expectations
What
the Council Expects of Interns
- To
be committed to the mission of the World Affairs Council.
- To
have goals for their internship and to seek ways to meet these
goals.
- To
be informed about projects they are working on and general Council
activities.
- To
be detail-oriented in their work in such a way that the supervisor
and other interns can continue the project.
- To
attend and provide assistance at 4-5 Council events during an
average internship time period of 3 months. Attendance is expected
at approximately 1 event per month.
- To
attend meetings appropriate to the intern's work (as necessary).
- To
conduct an informational interview with one community member.
What
Interns can Expect from the Council
- To
be trained in all WAC operating systems and receive an internship
manual that provides details day to day operations and program
management.
- To
experience working in a small, non-profit organization involved
in promoting international understanding through Community Programs
and meetings (note: the World Affairs Council is not a research
organization engaged in the formulation of policy but rather one
that promotes exchange of ideas through Community Programs, the
International Visitor Program, and firsthand experience).
- To
receive mentoring in the achievement of their goals.
- To
have access to internationally-engaged business leaders, organizations,
and institutions in the Puget Sound area.
- To
have the opportunity to complete projects that can be used in
a work portfolio or for credit.
Requirements
- A
3-month (quarter) commitment of 12-15 hours/wk during office hours;
6-month or 9-month commitment preferred
- Interest
in world affairs
- Good
verbal and written communication skills in English
- Excellent
organizational skills
- Professional
attire and attitude
