Program Scrapbook
Since
its inception, the Global Youth Leadership Program has brought students
and teachers to the Puget Sound region from countries such as Brazil,
Indonesia, Serbia, Morocco, Korea, Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Jordan, and other countries throughout
North Africa and the Middle East. Programs include homestays, mentoring,
school visits, and intensive project work on topics such as grassroots
democracy, ethnic tolerance, youth leadership, international understanding
through art, political leadership, and volunteerism.

Programs
In
2008 the Global Youth Leadership Program will continue
to work to empower youth leaders from around the globe through the
following projects:
U.S.
Brazilian Embassy Youth Ambassador Exchange Project: January 17-24,
2008
The World Affairs Council partnered with Delphi International, World
Learning and the U.S. Embassy in Brazil to bring 6 Brazilian Youth
to Seattle. These Youth Ambassadors worked on projects focused on
youth leadership and empowerment.
Developing
Leadership and Civic Responsibility: February 2-7, 2008
The World Affairs Council partnered with the Phelps-Stokes Fund
and the U.S. State Department to bring 8 students from Jordan to
Seattle to develop leadership skills and examine cross-cultural
concepts of social responsibility through workshops and observation
of the 2008 primary elections.
ASEAN
Youth Ambassador Program: June 14-28, 2008
The World Affairs Council partnered with Meridian International
and the U.S. State Department to bring a group of 11 students from
Indonesia to examine the political and economic relationship their
country has with the U.S. and to engage with Americans their own
age. They also presented a program of traditional Indonesian song,
dance and dress.

U.S.
Congress-Korean National Assembly Youth Exchange Program: July 23–26,
2008
In partnership with Meridian International Center, Korean university
students visted Seattle through the U.S. Congress-Korean National
Assembly Youth Exchange Program. While in Seattle their program
focused on increasing their knowledge of U.S.-Korean relations,
the U.S. foreign policy precress, civic particiaption, volunteerism,
and community activism.
