Community Programs
Culture through Cuisine

The Culture through Cuisine Series was created to highlight Seattle's ethnic diversity and allow the internationally minded community to take part in learning and enjoying other cultures through experiencing their respective cuisines.

WAC Member with Chef at Culture Through Cuisine: Benin

Each Culture through Cuisine Series explores a different region. The programs teach the participants about what makes each region unique and allows them to sample a typical dish.

The Culture through Cuisine Series began with a culinary program focused on foods from Africa and the Caribbean. In partnership with the Pan-Africa Market in Pike Place Market, programs featured the epicurean traditions of Morocco, Ethiopia, Haiti, Benin, and Zimbabwe.

The Series has evolved with a current focus on East Asia, including successive monthly programs focused on the culture and cuisine of Vietnam, Malaysia, Korea, China, and Turkey through food demonstrations at Salima restaurant and ethnic market tours.
