This first Asia Business Forum of the new year will assess the economic prospects for China, Japan and South Korea in 2018, as well as the status of President Trump’s trade policies against the United States’ key trading partners in Asia.

Attendees will also learn about: (i) What to expect in 2018 in terms of inbound investments from these countries to the Seattle area, (ii) outbound business opportunities in these countries; and (iii) how North Korea is affecting U.S. and East Asia relationships.

Panelists are to include:


Fraser Mendel – Vice Chairman of Washington State China Relations Council and attorney focused on international business deals involving the U.S. and China, who was previously based in Beijing for 12 years. Founding Partner of Mendel Owens PS.

Joe Borich – Former President of Washington State China Relations Council and American Consul General in Shanghai, China, who served every U.S. president from Richard Nixon to Bill Clinton in various China-related capacities.


Tom Roehl – Professor of international business at Western Washington University, who has taught courses on Japanese business and lived in Japan for more than five years for research.

Kenji Ushimaru – Seattle representative of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) promoting mutual trade and investment between the U.S. and Japan. CEO of Infra Innovations, Inc., an engineering firm in Seattle.


Jung Moon – Former Executive Director of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) in Silicon Valley. Founding Partner of SV101 Venture Partners, a global technology accelerator and early-stage investor in Silicon Valley.

The Asia Business Forum’s team of experts is engaged in Asia and tracks relevant policies and recent developments to deliver critical insights to Seattle’s Asia-oriented business community. Join us for a lively discussion of the issues making an impact in the region and across the Pacific.

TimeRegistration & networking begins at 5:00 p.m. Forum at 6:30 p.m.

Cost: Early Bird – $15. Regular – $20. At the door (cash/check only) – $30.

Parking: Free but limited (available on a first-come, first-serve basis).

Refreshments: Light snacks and drinks will be provided after 5:00 PM (this is not a dinner function).
