An Evening With The Terracotta Warriors: U.S.-China Relations Through the Scope of History
On Wednesday, April 26th the Council partnered with the Confucius Institute of Washington and the East Asia Resource Center at the University of Washington to host former Washington Post journalist and author John Pomfret at the Pacific Science Center. The conversation was moderated by Nelson Dong, Parter at Dorsey & Whitney LLP.
In the discussion Mr. Pomfret introduced and discussed his recently published book, “The Beautiful Country and the Middle Kingdom: America and China, 1776 to the Present”. Topics addressed included an analysis and a retrospective of the U.S.-China relationship over the course of several decades; commonalities and tensions between China and U.S., and Mr. Pomfret’s experiences as an expat journalist in China during many pivotal moments in China’s history, including the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.
Following the conversation, attendees enjoyed exclusive, after hours access of The Terracotta Warriors exhibit that is currently on display at the Pacific Science Center through September 4.
