YPIN America Dissected: Homelessness, Incarceration, and COVID-19
May 14th, 2020 6:30PM -7:30PM
This is a virtual event. Instructions to join the meeting will be sent to registrants prior to the program.
On March 11th, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic. Since its inception, nearly everyone has felt the effect of the virus. In the United States, about 27 million Americans have filed for unemployment, over one million cases have been reported, and almost 50 percent of Americans have experienced decreased work hours.
Although the news cycles have flooded our homes with COVID-19 stories, rarely do we hear of those who are most at risk to the disease: the homeless and incarcerated. In this virtual event, we will discuss the Crooked Media’s America Dissected podcast: Homelessness, Incarceration, and COVID-19.
Host Abdul El-Sayed chats with Dr. Ashwin Vasan, President of Fountain House, a non-profit supporting those at-risk suffering with mental illness, and Professor John Pfaff, who studies mass incarceration at Fordham University. The podcast is just 32 minutes long (great for a walk or while you do your quarantine spring cleaning).
On May 14th, we’ll engage in discussion about your experience during COVID-19, any thoughts on the podcast, and how we can help those at risk from home.
Listen to the podcast prior to our event, anywhere that you listen to your podcasts.
