Transforming Gender Norms in the Middle East and North Africa

So much of what we hear about the Middle East and North Africa today revolves around conflict, division, and instability. Less commonly are we presented stories about diversity, development, strength, and progress. Challenge the narrative of negativity, and learn more about what good is being done in the region. Join us on Wednesday, November 1, for a special Educator’s Workshop featuring visiting NGO and development workers from Egypt and Tunisia.

McCain (DDG 56), USS Vandegrift (FFG 48) and USNS Tippecanoe (T-AO 199) in the Western Pacific Ocean on June 18, 2006, to start exercise Valiant Shield 2006. Join the World Affairs Council for a conversation with Human Rights Watch’s Associate Director of Refugee Rights Gerry Simpson. He will share some of the stories he’s heard from refugees concerning the heavy price they’ve paid for the rich world’s indifference to their plight, and about how poorer countries such as Cameroon, Kenya and Pakistan have used that indifference to justify their own mass refugee abuses.
