In Memory of H. Ronald Masnik

The World Affairs Council recently lost a remarkable friend—long-time board member H. Ronald Masnik. Ron had served on the board of the Council for 15 years before stepping down last year to do more traveling with his wife Carol. But even after leaving the board, Ron stayed on as a member of the finance committee, continuing to help guide the Council. On December 27, Ron passed away after a brief illness.

Ron was a true global citizen. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy and became an international banker, working abroad for 15 years. He was also the Honorary Consul of Belgium from 1981-2016. It’s no surprise that he had a special affinity for the Council’s Global Classroom program, which works with teachers and students to make sure Seattle classrooms are global classrooms and that Seattle students are poised to become the next generation of global leaders. The family has suggested friends of Ron support the work of the Global Classroom program in his memory. We are honored and humbled.

The staff and trustees of the World Affairs Council were fortunate to have Ron as a part of the Council and as a friend—quick with a smile and a joke, he will be missed terribly. Ron adored his wife Carol and children Melissa, Alexis, Marc, and Julia. We adored him and carry his family in our thoughts.
