Jacqueline Miller Talks Russia at the Northwest School

On November 20, 2015, President and CEO of the World Affairs Council Jacqueline Miller spoke to a group of over 60 high school students and faculty at the Northwest School in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. The dominant topic of the conversation, moderated by two Northwest School Model UN students, was the relationship between Russia and Syria and foreign policy in the Middle East. When asked “What is Russia’s main priority in Syria?” Jacqueline responded by giving an overview of Russia’s geopolitical history to explain Russia’s strategic interest in the region. Students were challenged to think about policy issues from the Russian perspective. Jackie shed light on the tangled web of relationships between the various players in the Middle East and made complex issues regarding Russia and Syria accessible to students.

The World Affairs Council is pleased to have the Northwest School as member and partner school. If you’re interested in becoming a partner school, email gcstaff@world-affairs.org.
