Exchange Opportunities

Global Classroom seeks to engage teachers and students on global issues that affect our world today. By providing information about travel opportunities to educators and students, we hope that global knowledge and understanding will be brought into K-12 classrooms around the Puget Sound region. Please explore the links below and check out the various international travel and exchange opportunities available to U.S. educators and students.

NorthWest Student Exchange

Established in 1987 as a non-profit organization, NorthWest Student Exchange offers a variety of international student exchange programs for both international and American high school students: academic-year, semester, reciprocal, and summer student exchange programs. Youth For Understanding

YFU offers a variety of programs for High School students and graduating seniors, including yearlong, semester, summer, and short programs. YFU also provides a database of scholarships for prospective applicants. To create an account and register click here.

 

National Geographic Student Expeditions

National Geographic Student Expeditions offers high school and middle school students ages 13 and older opportunities to get out into the field and follow in the footsteps of National Geographic’s photographers, writers, and scientists. National Geographic invites the next generation of explorers to snorkel with marine biologists in Belize, go on photo shoots in Yellowstone National Park with a National Geographic photographer, help out with a community project in Nepal, and more.

Upcoming Travel Opportunities for Teachers: 

 

Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Short-Term Program

Through the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Short-Term Program, U.S. K-12 teachers and educators can apply for grants to engage in collaborative projects for approximately 2-6 weeks abroad, with a preference for 3 or more weeks. Grants for 2018 are available in Botswana, Brazil, Cambodia, Colombia, Ghana, Honduras, India, Kuwait, Mexico, the Palestinian Territories, Philippines, South Korea, Spain, and Vietnam. Click here to see more information on program opportunities.

Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (Fulbright TGC)

The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (Fulbright TGC) is a year-long professional development opportunity for U.S. elementary, middle, and high school teachers to develop skills for preparing students for a competitive global economy. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and is administered by IREX.

Applications for 2018-2019 are now open. The application deadline is Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. EST. Please apply here.

 

Global Exploration for Educators Organization (GEEO)

GEEO is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and assisting as many teachers as possible to travel abroad and then share their experiences with their students upon their return to the classroom. They offer a variety of programs across each continent, including multi-country programs. Application deadlines depend on the program. For more information click here.
