Seeking YPIN Board Members for 2012-13!
The Board of the Young Professionals International Network (YPIN) of the World Affairs Council (WAC) is currently seeking individuals to serve on its programming board for one year, starting in September 2012. YPIN is a fun and dynamic way to be active in the international community in Seattle. Board members gain valuable event planning and leadership experience, along with the opportunity to network with people in the public, private, and non-profit sectors who work in international affairs.
YPIN is looking for passionate, creative, and outgoing individuals to serve as General Program Coordinators on its 2012-2013 Board. YPIN wants to attract members from a variety of backgrounds. Marketing and communications experience is a bonus, as a significant focus of YPIN’s work is dedicated to growing membership and getting the word out about events.
YPIN is led by a Board of young professionals in the greater Seattle area from diverse backgrounds. Members range from foreign-born Americans to those who just like to learn more about the world around them. Many members speak different languages, have traveled or lived abroad, and enjoy hanging out with people with international worldviews. If you love socializing with people who fit this description, and are interested in helping others in the community to engage, you should apply! You won’t find a more interesting and fun group of young professionals in Seattle.
General Program Coordinators make up the bulk of our Board members. As a GPC, you will help plan and support YPIN events. GPCs must have the ability to organize and support conventional events (e.g. lectures, small group discussions, social gatherings) as well as envision new events that YPIN has not tackled thus far.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, innovative, and looking to gain board and event-planning experience. It’s also great if you have good networks of friends or colleagues who may be interested in international affairs. All GPCs are asked to organize two events per year, as well as assist on a few others. There is no financial requirement to sit the YPIN board, though if you aren’t already a member of YPIN, you will be requested to become one. YPIN wants to bring to the Board people who have already been active in the YPIN/WAC community. If you haven’t already been engaged, now is the time to come out to an event and get acquainted with YPIN.
If you are interested, please email your resume and a letter of intent to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 3rd. In your letter, please answer the following questions:
- In your opinion, what is YPIN’s purpose?
- Why are you interested in serving as a YPIN Board member?
- What skill sets and experience do you possess that will best serve YPIN?
- Finalist candidates will be required to attend a meet & greet event with the current Board on the evening of Thursday, August 23rd.
- Candidates must be able to attend Board meetings on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
- A one-year term on the Board runs from September through August of the following year.
- A full Board retreat is planned for September 14-16th, which all new Board members are required to attend.
YPIN will follow up individually with select candidates in August and host a meet-and-greet with all prospective board members on August 23rd. Be sure to put your best foot forward as membership to the Board is competitive. If you have any questions, please email the board at email@example.com.
