Travel to Brazil this Summer on a High School Exchange Program– Deadline Extended Feb 29!

The Youth Ambassadors Program with Brazil is a three week all expenses paid youth leadership exchange based in Brazil during summer 2012 for thirteen American teenagers ages 15-17 and one adult mentor.

The U.S. Youth Ambassador Program to Brazil will beging with three days in Brasília, where students will participate in an orientation and visit important sites while learning about the history of Brazil and its government.  After that, students will be split into four groups and each group will go to a different part of Brazil – one group will go to Curitiba/Guarapuava, Paraná; one to Manaus, Amazonas; one to Recife, Pernambuco; and the fourth one to Salvador, Bahia.  There, they will be hosted by volunteer families, visit schools, give presentations about the U.S. and develop a project on social justice and volunteerism.

The final segment in Brazil will bring all of the U.S. Youth Ambassadors to Rio de Janeiro for a presentation of their action plan projects, to take part in a social project, an evaluation, and to do some sight-seeing.

There is no application fee for applicants.

The U.S. Government will pay for international transportation to and from the United States, domestic travel to Pre-Departure Orientation in Washington, DC, orientations, program and visa fees and administration, site visits and seminars, lodging and meals, some cultural activities, educational materials, accident and sickness insurance while in Brazil, and a modest amount of pocket money. Participants will stay with volunteer host families and in conference centers.

***IMPORTANT: Please read carefully through the Online Application Instructions on the website!! You will have exactly two hours to complete the entire application; including the short and long essay section.  We strongly recommend that you review and write out your responses to these essay questions beforehand, so that when you are ready to submit your application you may simply paste your essays into the online application. You will also need to print out two letters of recommendation forms and give them to a teacher or other adult who is not related to you.  You will find these documents and more information regarding the entire application process on the website. And remember, read the instructions carefully!
