The Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program is an ALL EXPENSES PAID four week youth leadership exchange based in the U.S for Iraqi and American teenagers and several Iraqi adult educators.  The program aims to develop a group of young adults in Iraq and the United States who have a strong sense of civic responsibility, a commitment to community development, an awareness of current and global issues, strong interpersonal leadership skills, willingness to foster relationships among youth from different ethnic, religious, and national groups in Iraq and to promote mutual understanding, respect and collaboration between the United States and Iraq.

The program will take place this summer, in July/August 2012, actual dates TBD.  Participants will begin the program by spending one week in Brattleboro, VT at the SIT Graduate Institute, followed by two weeks living with host families throughout the U.S, and will conclude the program with a civic education week in Washington, DC.

In the U.S., participants will focus on the program themes through site meetings, experiential learning activities, leadership trainings, civic participation at the community level, mentoring by community, business and NGO leaders, and volunteering with local organizations.  Highlights will include homestays with local families, cultural events and outdoor leadership activities.

As a U.S. participant you will have the opportunity to participate in the entire program and will meet, and forge long standing friendships with, Iraqi high school students and adult mentors.  This is a unique and exciting opportunity to experience the United States with a group of students from all throughout Iraq; to see the U.S. from a different perspective; and to share with and learn from Iraqi students.
