From shifting alliances to rising geopolitical tensions, the transatlantic partnership faces unprecedented tests. In this timely discussion, Anja Wehler-Schöck, a Berlin-based journalist and political analyst, joins Ross Reynolds, longtime Seattle journalist and former NPR host, to examine how Europe interprets the global challenges shaping democracy, security, and international cooperation today.
About our Speaker

Anja Wehler-Schoeck is the International Editor of the German newspaper Tagesspiegel and member of its Editorial Board. In 2022, she founded the paper’s international affairs desk, which she subsequently headed until the end of 2024. Prior to that, she served as editor-in-chief of IPG Journal, a debate forum for international and European policy. Previously, she worked as Political Counselor at the German Embassy in Washington, DC and headed the Amman office of the German Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) as Country Director for Jordan and Iraq. She has published extensively and is a frequent commentator on international affairs, European politics, transatlantic relations and security policy. From 2005 to 2007, she served as Adjunct Lecturer at the Free University of Berlin, Germany. She holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Sciences Po in Paris, France and the Free University of Berlin.
About our Moderator

Ross Reynolds is an independent consultant, moderating panel discussions, interviewing authors, politicians, and activists--in collaboration with Humanities Washington, Seattle Rotary, KING-TV, Doctors without Borders, Seattle Interactive Conference, Forterra, etc.. He has previously worked for KUOW’s as Executive Producer for Community Engagement. Before that, he was a KUOW program host for 16 years. His awards include the 2011 Public Radio News Directors First Place in the Call-in category for “Living in a White City”. He has also been KUOW’s News Director, Program Director and he hosted the weekly KCTS-TV interview program ‘Upon Reflection’. Ross was news director at KBOO Radio in Portland, Oregon, and News/Public Affairs Director at WCUW Radio in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Ross has been in journalism fellowships through the East-West Center to Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and the Kingdom of Tonga and through RIAS Berlin to Berlin, Brussels, and Prague. He is a graduate of Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the University of Washington Department of Communication Masters in Digital Media program. In 2015 he was named to the UW Communication Alumni Hall of Fame.
