Understanding Ukraine

Join the World Affairs Council, the Ellison Center for Russian, East European & Central Asian Studies, and the Center for Global Studies for this special evening as we grapple with the current crisis in Ukraine. How have Russia and Europe shaped Ukrainian politics over the centuries? What triggered the current political crisis in Ukraine? Who are the major players and how does the current crisis impact Ukraine’s neighboring countries? How do we teach our students the complex challenges and opportunities facing this region today? Educators will also receive a 50-plus page resource packet and three clock hours.

The Scenario: Tedward Bowden & Cybersecurity

The Scenario is a global current events game, in which issues and situations from around the world are applied as if they’re occurring right here in the Northwest. Participants are assigned to teams representing different perspectives and roles, and given the challenge to address concerns of their stakeholder groups in order to resolve the hypothetical scenario.

Annette Lu: A Feminist’s Fight for Taiwan

Annette Lu’s powerful memoir tells Taiwan’s political history through her personal story, from impoverished beginnings as a shopkeeper’s daughter to her eventual election as Vice President of Taiwan. Surviving cancer and imprisonment, Lu became the first female Vice President of Taiwan in 2000, the signal achievement in her quest for gender equality, human, rights, and political reform.
