Alina Romanowski
Ambassador Alina L. Romanowski assumed her position as the Principal Deputy Coordinator for Counterterrorism on December 24, 2017. As the deputy, she oversees the coordination and integration of the Department of State’s and U.S. government’s international efforts to advance specific counterterrorism policy objectives and develops and implements programs to counter violent extremism. She served as the acting Principal Deputy Coordinator from November 2016 to December 2017.
Prior to her appointment to the Counterterrorism Bureau, Ms. Romanowski served as the Coordinator for U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia in the State Department’s Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs from March 2015 to November 2016. Working, and coordinating closely with the Bureau for South and Central Asian Affairs and the Office of the Director of Foreign Assistance, Ms. Romanowski oversaw all U.S. Government assistance to thirty countries in Europe and Eurasia, including Central Asia.
