2027 World Citizen Engagement Contest
March 22nd, 2027
The World Citizen Essay Contest is evolving into the World Citizen Engagement Contest (WCEC)! Open to students in grades 3–12 across Washington State, the 2027 WCEC invites young people to explore a global issue that matters to them and share their perspective through a traditional essay, photo essay, video essay, or podcast.
This year’s prompt asks students to consider: What issue facing our interconnected world deserves greater attention and understanding, and why? Students are encouraged to research their chosen issue, consider its local and global connections, and explore how they or others can contribute to positive change.
New this year, students whose submissions focus on environmental sustainability will also be eligible for the 2027 WCEC Sustainability Award, made possible with support from Weyerhaeuser.
Deadline: March 22, 2027, by 11:59 p.m. PT
Eligibility: Youth in grades 3–12 in Washington State
