IKAT Exhibition Tour
May 20th, 2023 2:00PM -3:30PM
Back by popular demand, YPIN is hosting a group tour at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM). We will be transported all over the world through SAM’s special exhibition entitled IKAT: A World of Compelling Cloth. To learn more about this exhibition, please visit SAM's website. Our tour guide for the afternoon will be Pamela McClusky, Curator of African and Oceanic Art.
About Our Speaker
Pamela has worked in art museums for decades with a focus on international exchanges and diplomacy. She promotes collaborative processes and has been involved in creating exhibitions that rely on alliances with African, African American and Oceanic artists and scholars, as well as Australian Aboriginal communities and museums. Many of these exhibitions have been circulated internationally, resulting in publications and digital resources. Often these projects rely on research that involves oral histories and performances, and challenge the reliance on written records alone.
Within the Seattle Art Museum, she has curated multiple galleries that often mix cultural perspectives and cross continental boundaries. Of her exhibitions on view, the focus of our tour will be on IKAT: A World of Compelling Cloth. This exhibition of the ikat tradition has involved research about 8 regions of the world and a collection formulated after working with Threads of Life, an organization based in Ubud, Bali, where she traveled to in 2022.
