WAC Global Connections Club | Empowering Youth Through Global Education
November 12th, 2025 4:00PM -5:00PM
Join the World Affairs Council’s Global Connections Club (GCC) Wednesday, November 12th, 2025 from 4-5PM PT for an inspiring session on Empowering Youth through Global Education.
The Global Classroom team will share ways students and educators can connect with the world through the following programs and resources:
-
World Citizen Essay Contest (WCEC): Open to students in grades 3–12 across Washington, this annual contest invites young people to explore critical global issues and share their perspectives on how individuals can make a positive impact. Essays are reviewed by community judges, fostering meaningful dialogue between students, teachers, and families
-
IVLP Classroom Initiative: Through this unique partnership with the U.S. Department of State, international visitors join Washington classrooms virtually to share lived experiences and insights on global topics. These 45–60 minute sessions bring the world directly to students, sparking cross-cultural curiosity and understanding.
-
World Educator Award: Each year, the Council honors an exceptional K–12 teacher who broadens students’ global horizons and inspires international understanding in the classroom. Students are encouraged to nominate teachers who have deepened their global learning and curiosity.
-
Curriculum Resource Guides: Our online library offers free, standards-aligned lesson plans, multimedia tools, and classroom activities that bring global issues and current events to life. Designed for social studies educators, these guides are also valuable across subjects like history, geography, STEM, and world politics.
We’re also thrilled to be joined by our partners from OneWorld Now!, who will highlight language learning and international travel opportunities for high school students.
