YPIN Global Cafe: Philanthropy
January 24th, 2024 6:30PM -8:00PM
Donating to charity is good. Right?
As with most things, it’s not that simple. As concepts like white saviorism, effective altruism, anti-colonialism, and more enter our cultural zeitgeist, it can be hard to discern how to move through the world of philanthropy effectively and ethically - especially when money is moving internationally. Join YPIN for a casual discussion of this topic as the latest installment in our Global Cafe series; where participants get together to examine and analyze some of the biggest topics in Global Affairs today. This is an informal conversation; all respectful opinions and thoughts are welcome.
Below are some short articles to introduce some themes and viewpoints of the contemporary discourse on philanthropy. Suggested but not required reading - as with all YPIN events, no expertise necessary!
