Cate Borrelli
Cate Borrelli is a senior at the University of Washington majoring in Law, Societies, and Justice
and double-minoring in French and Russian. Her interests in global affairs and human rights
were sparked by nightly conversations with her family about politics and rights issues that they
encountered through their work and travels. She has continued to pursue those interests
through her major and the study abroad programs that she completed in Cape Town, South
Africa and Rome, Italy. In Cape Town she studied comparative criminal justice and the post-
Apartheid rights issues that the country continues to face. Following that program, she studied
refugee rights in Western Europe, human rights law, and the European Court of Human Rights’
work in Rome.
From her courses and experiences abroad, Cate understands the importance of having insight
into global issues given the numerous people they affect. She hopes to use her position with
Community Programs to help educate others on global issues and to help promote their
importance within the greater community. In the future, she plans to pursue a legal degree and
hopes to use it, along with her language skills, to work on international human rights issues.
