Hiromi Pingry
Hiromi Pingry grew up in Tokyo, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Tohoku University. During her time at university, she also participated in the Japanese equivalent of the Peace Corps, the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, through which she taught math and science at a secondary school in Kenya. After college, and before moving to Seattle, Hiromi worked for the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Hiromi has taught Japanese at the John Stanford International Elementary School for sixteen years. Building on the Primary Years Program and the Asia Society’s Global Competence Framework, Hiromi has helped to lead the staff and community in growing students as bilingual and biliterate global citizens. She has also been instrumental in developing materials for teaching Japanese at John Stanford, and has shared her experience of creating new teaching resources with other foreign language educators across the country.
