John Galligan
John’s is a General Manager in Microsoft’s Global Public Affairs team, whose responsibility is to lead Microsoft's corporate communications, public relations, and corporate marketing work on a wide range of high-profile issues that are central to Microsoft's work around the world.
John leads a team within Global Public Affairs whose charter is to support the company's international network of government and corporate affairs professionals as they advance Microsoft’s public policy, commercial and societal impact goals.
Prior to this role, John was Microsoft’s Regional Director for Government Relations from 2009-2015. Based in Singapore, he coordinated the company’s public policy, government affairs and industry relations across the Asia-Pacific region. Previously, John was Director of Corporate Affairs & Citizenship for Microsoft Australia, where he had responsibility for government and industry engagement, community affairs and the Company’s corporate citizenship strategy.
Before joining Microsoft in 2006, John held the position of Director of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at BAT Australasia for over 6 years and from 1993-1997 he occupied several senior advisory positions in Australian federal politics. From 1997-1998 he was Manager of Media and Communication for the Liberal Party of Australia National Office as well as Acting Executive Director for the Menzies Research Centre.
John is a current board member of the Public Affairs Council and the US-ASEAN Business Council, a member of the advisory committee for the Partnership on Global LGBTI Equality, and former founding board member of the Asia Cloud Computing Association.
John holds degrees in Business Communication from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and in Political Science from Australian National University (ANU).
He lives in Seattle with his husband.
