Kara McDonald-LaBenz
Kara McDonald-LaBenz has taught Social Studies and Health Education at Roosevelt High School for the past 20 years. Throughout her career, she has been committed to helping students better understand the world and their place in it through meaningful global learning experiences.
A significant part of Kara's work at Roosevelt is her leadership of the Hands for a Bridge program, which connects students through international exchanges in Northern Ireland and Cape Town, South Africa. Through these experiences, students engage with issues of identity, justice, and community while building lasting cross-cultural relationships.
As she returns to teaching Human Geography, Kara is excited to join a community of educators dedicated to strengthening global education and expanding opportunities for students to explore diverse perspectives.
A lifelong Seattle-area resident, Kara lives in the Greenwood neighborhood with her husband and six-year-old son. Together, they enjoy spending time outdoors and skiing as a family.
