Sofija Raisys
Sofija Raisys is a senior at the University of Washington majoring in International Studies and minoring in Lithuanian. Her areas of interest include Eastern Europe and Russia with a special concentration on the Baltic Countries. These passions, along with an interest in events and community engagement, led Sofija to the World Affairs Council as the Community Programs Intern. Sofija has lived in Seattle the majority of her life and loves the endless activities, food, and beautiful scenery that Seattle has to offer.
Sofija’s Lithuanian background and passion for culture and language has allowed her to travel throughout Europe with her family and friends. She participated in the 2012 International Lithuanian Dance Festival in Boston as well as two International Singing Festivals in Lithuania in 2014 and 2018. At the University of Washington, Sofija has had the opportunity to study the Lithuanian language for the past 2 years. This summer, she was able to spend a month in Lithuania taking an intensive language course at Vilnius University. Sofija hopes to go to Rome next year to study European Security Challenges with the UW Jackson School Task Force Program. In her free time, Sofija enjoys spending time with her family and friends, finding new restaurants, and traveling.
